About the programme: The programme is focused on one of the following attractive specialisations: Programming and Design of Information Systems; Computer Graphics; Artificial Intelligence; Software Development for Education. It offers interesting compulsory elective and elective courses in attractive areas, such as graphics, bioinformatics, web technology, cognitive sciences, robotics, etc. Programme graduates have the ability to learn and understand the algorithm, systems and technologies with which they will meet later in commercial area. They are able to solve tasks creatively, in perspective and thorough understanding. Students are supplied with articles focused on current technologies and applications, so they maintain an excellent position in the labour market.

About the programme: Programme graduates are specialists in an interdisciplinary field at the interface of natural sciences and medicine, i.e. physics, mathematics, computer sciences, medicine, biology and chemistry. Subject area of biophysics and medicine combines the knowledge of physical laws important for basic biological processes and physical agents on biological systems with the knowledge of principles of operation of various systems of the human body, and the knowledge of complex functional relationships between systems at different levels of organisation. This also reduces the risk of errors that may occur due to underestimation of biological or physical problems.

About the programme: Cognitive science studies human cognition, i.e. the processes of perception, cognition, thinking, knowledge representation, learning, decision‑making and how these processes are implemented in the brain. The programme has an interdisciplinary character
– it combines the use of knowledge and methods of various disciplines, i.e. psychology, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, linguistics, philosophy, anthropology and others. The programme combines these disciplines with a special emphasis on the formalisation and computational modelling of cognitive processes, which allows not only to understand them better, but also to
apply the obtained computational models in the form of smart technologies.

About the programme: Environmental physics is nowadays one of the established branches of
physics, which is studied at many universities throughout the world. Meteorology, as a scientific discipline studying the physical processes in the atmosphere, concentrates mainly on creating
weather forecasts using the outputs of mathematical models of atmospheric processes. Climatology deals with the analysis and research of the long‑term atmospheric conditions based on reliable long‑term measurements. Energy problem, living environment and global climate changes currently represent the key challenge for the humankind. This study programme has an interdisciplinary character lying at the border of different branches of physics and using the knowledge of other scientific branches. Besides the common background, the programme allows its students to be specialised on environmental physics and renewable energy sources, or meteorology and climatology.

Programme: Optics, Lasers and Optical Spectroscopy

About the programme: Programme graduates acquire the knowledge in the field of lasers and optical spectroscopy, which form the basis of many of today’s modern technology. They
are crucial for the development of telecommunications, optoelectronics, microelectronics and nanotechnology. Furthermore, programme graduates obtain the knowledge of laser technology in combination with related vacuum and plasma technologies, generation of laser radiation and applications of lasers in the study of nonlinear properties of materials (microstructure optical fibres), exploring new aspects of holography and interferometry. Their knowledge of ultrasensitive optical spectroscopy methods from the vacuum UV through near‑IR region of the spectrum can be applied in the detection of trace elements, radicals and molecules in the environment, medicine, pharmacy, criminology, civil defence, as well as the detection of drugs, explosives and narcotics.

Programme: Physics of the Earth

About the programme: It is a joint study programme provided in co‑operation with the University of Vienna (Austria). Programme graduates are graduates of both universities. The programme is focused on the physical structure of the Earth’s interior and near‑Earth space, physical processes in the Earth’s interior and near‑Earth space, methods of measurement, methods of processing and analysis of data, methods of signal analysis and computer programming. Programme graduates are able to work in geophysical research, participate in a research in various branches of geosciences and creatively apply the acquired knowledge in practice. The acquired knowledge of mathematics, physics and informatics enables the graduates to be employed also in other branches of research and industry, and public and private sectors.

fundamentals of probability theory is the most widespread and the most successful tool for processing the data. Statistical methods make it possible to obtain useful information from the
data and to make more objective decisions based on this information. The philosophy of the
programme is in agreement with the university curriculum in the field of statistics in leading
science and technical universities in the EU and the USA. Teachers of the programme are
internationally recognised experts with extensive teaching experience.

About the programme: Solid state physics is currently one of the most dynamical fields of physics, both in theoretical and experimental developments. It forms basis of large number of important applications, including electronic devices, new progressive materials and nanotechnologies. Programme graduates learn new theoretical approaches, employ state‑of‑the‑art computer simulation methods, and master experimental and diagnostic techniques. During their studies, students are involved in national and international projects, which allow them to work in top‑equipped laboratories in Slovakia and abroad. Programme graduates can be employed in basic and applied research in the Slovak Academy of Sciences and at universities, as well as in the private sector.

Programme: Theoretical Physics

About the programme: Physics is experimental and at the same time theoretical science. The
role of physicists is thus twofold: 1) gain the knowledge of the material world by designing and
performing sophisticated experiments; 2) formulate theories allowing us to understand the ever increasing amount of data and uncover new relationships therein. Programme graduates understand, apply and further develop modern physical theories of the world. These span from microscopic to cosmic scales and cover vast range of phenomena ranging from particle physics to condensed matter physics to cosmology. Students can focus on one of these fields. Programme
graduates also gain a deep knowledge in mathematics, physics and programming.
